the Holiday Shuffle

Happy Thanksgiving! Even though it's a few days early we had our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. My next treatment is Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, so I wouldn't be able to enjoy Thanksgiving day so we "moved" our Thanksgiving. I came home Friday night and when we got up Saturday we just started cooking the turkey like normal. I'm in charge of the turkey, dressing and gravy... Friday night I baked a pumpkin cake for dessert. Mom made mashed potatoes and green beans. It was all delicious. Thanksgiving is my favorite meal by far. Nothing does it for me like turkey, dressing, gravy, etc. :)

This year was hard though, not just the cancer and having to move the day... It's the first year without my Granny. She passed away in April. We always had her over for Thanksgiving, she never ate turkey but we always picked on her about it. My Grandma Huff would be here too but she went in the hospital this past week, and just got moved to the rehab center. That has made it a horribly rough week emotionally. It's brought back all the memories of what Granny went through. Not to mention this side of the family isn't handling it as well as that side did. Things just aren't going smoothly for Grandma. I'm hoping it gets better now that she's gotten into the rehab center.

It was hard to be away from home this week with everything going on with Grandma. I've started having more problems that I wasn't expecting the third week after treatment. I haven't felt as good this time... some days are okay but some nights I'm completely exhausted and wake up the next morning still exhausted. I've had some digestive problems. It may be the stress or it could be the cumulative effect of the chemo treatments. I don't know at this point.

On a more positive note, since we had planned Thanksgiving this weekend and my treatment is next week, Mom and I put up my Christmas tree and decorations last weekend at my house! My tree is beautiful! The glow is truly magical. Hopefully on the day after treatment, Thanksgiving, I'll feel good enough to help mom decorate her tree. We won't do Black Friday this year like we have the past couple of years but I don't think we'll do a big Christmas this year. Most of our money will go to insurance. And really there's nothing I want but to get through this and get better.
