Chemo #6: the FINAL treatment!

I cannot express how excited I am to get this final treatment done. To be talking about being excited about chemo seems crazy but I'm very serious. It doesn't feel real yet. I've put so much of my life on hold and have felt so isolated for the past five or six months that it will take a while to get out of this routine of three-week cycles of treatments. Which I am so thankful for!!!

Since it was my last treatment, we did ask Dad to come by and see me during my treatment. I know he was hesitant but I'm glad he did.

One of my dear friends, Amanda, stayed with me through this treatment. It was great to have someone to chat with and the time passed a lot quicker. Mom ran out and got us Starbucks... it was our own little celebration!

The treatment went so well, without complications. I have to say it was because of all the positive energy, laughter, and love that was in the air at that time. They gave me the treatment slower, and it was fine, I had made it this far, I was in no hurry. It would get done that day which was good enough for me. When I was finished, the nurse, Jan, unhooked my port and it was time for me to "graduate." To ring the bell.

All the nurses lined up for me to walk out, they stopped what they were doing, forming a line to the door as the patients, staff and nurses watched me walk to the door. They had me read the bell's plaque first... then ring it loud and proud!

As I was leaving, Dr. G. caught me on the way out and wanted me to stop by his office. My office visit wasn't until Friday but I stopped by anyway, I knew it was probably about my BRAC results coming in. He told me the results came back and they were negative (!!!). The test is 95% conclusive for finding genetic mutations (basically for catching the mutated gene that would pass on breast cancer in a family). So that was excellent news to hear! Especially since I was very hesitant to have the test done in the first place, I'm glad now that I had it done and very thankful for good news.

It has been a wonderful week. :)

Tears of joy

I know I've sounded down lately, and I probably have been. But I wanted to tell a good story too. Yesterday when I was getting ready to go meet mom I was putting lotion on my legs and the sun was shining in the bathroom... it was bright enough to shine on my legs and I saw there was hair on my leg!!! I couldn't believe it! I started crying, tears of joy! Now, how many women actually cry tears of joy over leg hair? But really, I have shaved my legs maybe once since October and that time wasn't even necessary, but more out of habit. lol.

So, I know this story is a bit random but it really gave me hope that I'm getting near the end of the chemo journey. I don't know why there was some hair there whether it was because my treatment was a week late or my body just trucking through. But it was a good moment. :)
