Wouldn't it be great if we didn't need doctors or hospitals anymore? Take a minute and just think if everyone was healthy until their dying day. Then maybe an angel could grant you a final 24 hours; to spend with your loved ones or family, or to do whatever you've put off doing. Just so we leave this earth still healthy, not worn away from pain, disease or old age.
Then people wouldn't wait until you are on your deathbed to spend a few last days or hours with someone they once knew. Someone who is now incoherent, or painfully ill. We could come together will all those we know and enjoy our time together. Not put it off saying we could do it another day. Instead of prioritizing things like work, which does not take care of us when we are ill. No matter how much sweat or time we sacrifice to it.
I know this may sound naive. And some may say the bad times make us appreciate the good. And they probably do. For a time.
I've spent a lot of time in hospitals this year. Usually as the patient. Yesterday I was there for my dad to have a heart catherization done to check for blockages. It was much needed since he had been having chest pains for a while. We got up at 4am to be in Roanoke by 6am. I was a wreck. I rambled the entire drive down there. Anyone who knows me knows that on a normal day I don't talk to anyone before 9 or 10am. Then once they checked Dad in, I just sobbed until they took him back. They did a heart cath on him several years ago and his heart stopped, they had to shock him. It took a lot of convincing to get him to come back and have this done.
After the year we had I just couldn't take being in the hospital and waiting again. I couldn't read. I just sat there or paced the room. Mom is amazing. She's been through this with Dad, me, Grandma and Granny. Just in the past year or two. The fact that she has been through this with all of us and is so calm is a blessing.
Dad made it through fine. One of his main arteries (lateral?) was 90% blocked so they put a stent in to open it up. They showed us the before and after pictures. It was almost completely pinched off! Hopefully he'll recover well since he doesn't do good staying in the house.
