Hair Thoughts

I woke up today, day 11 post chemo, and still had hair. And again today I was so very thankful I said a prayer. It might have just been relief. I haven't had a good hair day since I started chemo, I'm scared to roll my hair like I normally did since it pulls so much on my hair. Therefore my hair is just here, straight, hanging out. But it's HERE! And I've been so grateful it brings tears to my eyes. It makes you think how much you take for granted... a healthy body, the ability to walk, to breathe, to have hair!!! Just sit for a minute and think, really think about living for the next few months without a single hair on your head, or anywhere on your body for that matter. Think how you would handle it.

I don't know how I'll handle it. I just know I'll get through it. I've got a couple of scarves and ordered a couple more. I've been a hat person so I've already got a bunch of hats and I'm not afraid to get more. Like I said before I got a couple wigs, but I don't know if I'll be a wig person, I like to be comfortable above all. On the plus side, I've never had the balls to cut my hair really short so once it starts growing in I'll actually get to see what short hair looks like on me. It will just be getting through the next few months. Enduring the stares... that kinda thing. Maybe it will be a winter like last winter and I can hibernate till March. That would be nice.

Prior to beginning chemo, I wanted to have pictures made of my "healthy" self. I had my hair long, down to my shoulders when I was diagnosed but cut it short before beginning chemo. While it was still long, I contacted my close friend Chelsa Yoder who is an incredible photographer. We planned to do a pre-chemo photo session as well as planning another one later on to capture my journey through this battle. The pictures turned out beyond words... it was so windy that day so some really show the hair movement. I thought I'd post a few here. If you are on Facebook, look up Chelsa Yoder Photography and book her now!

Once my hair starts to come out, Mom's hairdresser has offered to come to our house and shave my head. Mom had thought we could "schedule" it for today, since I was home all weekend... but it didn't happen yet. Thankfully. I know I could go ahead and do it and maybe save myself the trauma of finding it falling out but I'm going to hang onto it for as long as I can. Even if it's just tomorrow.
